Dive at Tiran Island

If you are staying in Sharm El Sheikh then Diving off Tiran Island is a must.  If you learn to scuba dive in Sharm, make Tiran Island top of your diving 'to do' list.

Ras Mohamed Diving

Boat Diving - Ras Mohamed is a fantastic place for a boat dive.  Even learners will enjoy  it but do make sure you are accompanied safely with good dive guides and equipment.

Diving Instructors

When you learn to dive you will find that diving schools and often even the individual diving instructors vary a great deal as does the quality of the equipment.  Watch for our recommendations.

Used Diving Equipment

Most of us, when we begin taking diving lessons, soon start to think about having our own diving gear.  Then we realise how expensive buying your own equipment.  Our page Used Diving Equipment should offer an alernative.  See also Diving Cylinders.

This is my personal interpretation so please double check with your centre before booking.                        PADI Open Water - DVD

Prerequisites: You must be able to swim 200 meters non-stop any style plus tread water for 10 minutes.  Can't swim?  Learn to Swim  With Us!

PADI Scuba Diver Course

You will often see this course in resorts advertised as a 2 day course.  Unless you are used to studying and take to learning new skills, especially water skills, fairly quick, you will probably find this quite intensive.  Many places now take this course over 3 days.

Note:  There is nothing to stop you taking as long as you need if the centre can accomodate you.  My advice would be to get some of the theory done before you start.

This course is ideal for those who want to begin their initial diver training without fully committing to the full Open Water Course.

Covering basics of diving and safety rules, after completing the Scuba Diver course you will be able to dive anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 12 metres accompanied at all times by a Divemaster or Instructor.

The course itself consists of

  • 3 knowledge theory sessions

  • 3 confined water/pool training sessions

  • 2 open water training dives

Following successful completion of this course students can be certified as a PADI Basic Scuba Diver.

PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Certification Course

The course is divided into three parts:

  • 5 classroom sessions

  • 5 confined water sessions

  • 4 open water dives (and optional skin dive)

At some point in the course, your PADI Instructor will ask you to demonstrate your ability to swim 200 metres and tread water/float for 10 minutes or 300 metres with mask, fins.  Note:  I would advise you to ask to do this first if you have any doubts.  Not much point finding out you can't do it half way through!
